Journalist fined for report

Kalar preliminary court in Sulaimaniya decided on Tuesday, February 26th, to fine VOI’s correspondent, Delshad Anwar on the background of publishing a report in Rayel magazine which was chief edited by the late Kwa Kremyani.

In a statement to Press Freedom Advocacy Association in Iraq, Delshad said that he had been fined for ID 3000000 (three million Iraqi dinars) for publishing a report on lands’ takeover by Basim Adnan Hama, an official in the Kurdistani National party and correspondent for the magazine in 2013.  Delshad confirmed that the money had to be paid from his personal pocket since the magazine is closed.

Press Freedom Advocacy Association in Iraq calls upon all authorities in the country to abide to professional standards when dealing with journalists and to keep remote from political and partisan interests. The association demands canceling the sentence issued against Delshad Anwar since he was imposed to clear pressure in terms of the abovementioned case.
