Journalists in Kirkuk face\nrestrictions on their movement in the announced curfew, although they are formally\nexempted by the operations command.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Journalists told Press Freedom\nAdvocacy Association in Iraq that a number of police squad refrained from\npassing journalists, and deliberately\nharassed them, as a number of colleagues confirmed the existence of a national\nand regional temperament in dealing with the cadres of media and press\norganizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kirkuk police imposed a fine on The\nKali Kurdistan (Azad Shakur) correspondent and confiscated his Badges while\nreturning from his work at the channel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Azad told\nPress Freedom Advocacy Association in Iraq that the Kirkuk police stopped him on\nTuesday evening while he was returning from work as he passed through one of\nthe checkpoints there, and asked him to clarify the nature of his work, he told\nthem that he is a correspondent for the channel “Kali Kurdistan”, but\nthe officer seized his IDs, including the car papers and driving license.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Association condemns what fellow\njournalist Azad Shakur has undergone. The attitude and action of the security\nfactions towards him and others is a clear violation of the freedom of\njournalism in the country, and expresses concern about dealing in a moody way\nwith journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The association calls on the security\nforces in Kirkuk to stop attacking journalists, prevent them from carrying out\ntheir duties, and to allow them to exercise their rights, especially at a time\nwhen governmental authorities have given them freedom of movement and coverage\nin the current crisis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
