Security forces in Kirkuk detained a reporter and cameraman for The Kurdistan 24 channel and prevented other journalists from covering peasant demonstrations in the province, and destroyed and confiscated the equipment of three cadres who came to cover<\/span><\/span> the incident<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>Sunday<\/span><\/span>morning.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Azad Shakur,<\/span><\/span> A Kali Kurdistan Correspondent<\/span><\/span>who was on a press mission to cover the demonstration that <\/span><\/span>erupted<\/span><\/span> in the province<\/span><\/span> told Press Freedom Advocacy Associ<\/span><\/span>ati<\/span><\/span>on in Iraq<\/span><\/span>that<\/span><\/span> the security forces of the 19th Brigade prevented him and the staff of “NRT” <\/span><\/span>channel <\/span><\/span>from covering, and detained the team of (Kurdistan 24<\/span><\/span>) channel.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Shakur said the troops confiscated his equipment and destroyed the NRT camera, while Kurdistan 24 reporter <\/span><\/span>Soran<\/span><\/span> Kamran and his cameraman <\/span><\/span>Nozad<\/span><\/span> Mohammed remained in detention until the time of writing.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Press Freedom <\/span><\/span>Advocacy Association in Iraq<\/span><\/span>considers<\/span><\/span> the detention of journalists and preventing them from <\/span><\/span>coverage<\/span><\/span> a violation of press and media freedom, a violation of the law, and expresses concern<\/span><\/span> about the repeated detentions <\/span><\/span>of journalists in order to intimidate and undermine their work. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The association calls on the security authorities in Kirkuk to release the journalists immediately and to stop using force against them <\/span><\/span>when on duty.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
