A Security Force of <\/span><\/span>Asa<\/span><\/span>y<\/span><\/span>ish<\/span><\/span> severely <\/span><\/span>beat<\/span><\/span>ed<\/span><\/span> the staff of the <\/span><\/span>P<\/span><\/span>ayam<\/span><\/span> TV<\/span><\/span> channel consisting of a reporter and <\/span><\/span>two cameramen<\/span><\/span>, and confiscated their equipment in Erbil on Wednesday morning.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Channel reporter Imran Amir said <\/span><\/span>on<\/span><\/span> a telephone conversation with the Press Freedom<\/span><\/span> Advocacy Association<\/span><\/span> in Iraq that as soon as he arrived and the <\/span><\/span>cameramen<\/span><\/span> near the Mosque of Al-<\/span><\/span>Sawaf<\/span><\/span> in Erbil to cover the demonstration organized by the clerics to demand the opening of houses of worship and improve the poor economic <\/span><\/span>situation<\/span><\/span> in the region, and during <\/span><\/span>live broadcast<\/span><\/span>, a force of <\/span><\/span>Asa<\/span><\/span>y<\/span><\/span>ish<\/span><\/span>attacked the staff and prevented them from covering.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Amir said security <\/span><\/span>elements<\/span><\/span> seized their press equipment and ordered them to leave immediately.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Press Freedom<\/span><\/span> Advocacy Association<\/span><\/span> in Iraq <\/span><\/span>considers th<\/span><\/span>is a violation of the constitutionally guaranteed press and media <\/span><\/span>rights<\/span><\/span>, and expresses concern about its repetition <\/span><\/span>during<\/span><\/span> duty of media staffs<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The association also calls on the local government in the province to instruct its security forces to stop violating the freedom of journalistic work stipulated in the constitution, and to hold accountable those who abuse journalists in the performance of their journalistic duties.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
