The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Office of the Coordinator of International Recommendations issued a statement accusing NRT of inciting violence and sabotage after it reported protests in most areas of the region, calling on the <\/span><\/span>P<\/span><\/span>ublic <\/span><\/span>P<\/span><\/span>rosecutor to close it.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

PM office<\/span><\/span> accused the channel of inciting people not to apply the decisions of the Ministry<\/span><\/span> of <\/span><\/span>Interior<\/span><\/span> in<\/span><\/span> Kurdistan and breaking the quarantine in the region and questioning the declared numbers of people affected by the Corona epidemic, announcing <\/span><\/span>its full<\/span><\/span> support <\/span><\/span>backing<\/span><\/span>the <\/span><\/span>M<\/span><\/span>inistry of <\/span><\/span>culture’s notion t<\/span><\/span>o the prosecutor<\/span><\/span>in the region to close the channel, which prompted to file a lawsuit against the satellite<\/span><\/span>channel<\/span><\/span>, which will be brought before <\/span><\/span>court<\/span><\/span> next month.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“<\/span><\/span>NRT has exploited freedoms in the region and incited violence,” the statement said.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The statement, which was received <\/span><\/span>with awe <\/span><\/span>by the Press Freedom<\/span><\/span> Advocacy Association<\/span><\/span> in Iraq, did not mention any of the severe attacks on journalists over the past week, and the cadres of (NRT)<\/span><\/span> satellite channel who<\/span><\/span> had the lion’s share of <\/span><\/span>the aggressive attacks<\/span><\/span>, many of whom were beaten, arrested and prevented, as well as the failure to urge the government to investigate<\/span><\/span>into the incidents<\/span><\/span> that went unquestioned and escaped<\/span><\/span> punishment of the perpetrators of violations and <\/span><\/span>abuses <\/span><\/span>against journalists and their institutions by the security forces.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The government statement also indirectly encourages security personnel to continue abuses against the press family.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span><\/span>Press Freedom<\/span><\/span> Advocacy Association<\/span><\/span> in Iraq<\/span><\/span> deplores <\/span><\/span>all that is mentioned <\/span><\/span>in the statement, which is a new setback in the area of freedom of expression, as well as a violation of the freedom of constitutionally guaranteed press work.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The association calls on the authorities in the Kurdistan region to reconsider their recent policy towards journalists and media organizations, and the need to take into account the treaties and <\/span><\/span>conventions they have signed that have guaranteed freedom of expression, assembly and peaceful demonstration.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It also calls on the <\/span><\/span>F<\/span><\/span>ederal <\/span><\/span>G<\/span><\/span>overnment <\/span><\/span>to stand to<\/span><\/span> its duties <\/span><\/span>and<\/span><\/span> protect the freedom of journalistic work in all regions of the country, and not to leave Kurdish journalists prisoners of the territo<\/span><\/span>ry’s <\/span><\/span>power <\/span><\/span>actions<\/span><\/span><\/a> outside all legal and constitutional contexts.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
