UTV announced the closure of its office in Baghdad after receiving threats from an unknown armed entity.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span><\/span>staff at the channel’s headquarters <\/span><\/span>told <\/span><\/span>Press Freedom <\/span><\/span>Advocacy Association <\/span><\/span>in Iraq that their office on Abu <\/span><\/span>N<\/span><\/span>u<\/span><\/span>was<\/span><\/span> Street had<\/span><\/span> been<\/span><\/span> closed after receiving threats from an unknown group <\/span><\/span>of<\/span><\/span>four-wheel-drive vehicles and armed elements, immediately after <\/span><\/span>ending a broadcast of<\/span><\/span> a <\/span><\/span>(<\/span><\/span>Sha<\/span><\/span>hadat<\/span><\/span> Khassa<\/span><\/span>: Private Witnesses)<\/span><\/span> program that dealt with information <\/span><\/span>that was <\/span><\/span>deemed offensiv<\/span><\/span>e to an Islamic figure without <\/span><\/span>naming him. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Press Freedom <\/span><\/span>\u00a0Advocacy Association <\/span><\/span>in Iraq <\/span><\/span>rejects these threats by armed groups and <\/span><\/span>considers this mouth muzzling policy<\/span><\/span> a clear violation of the freedom of journalistic and media work in the country<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span><\/span>Association<\/span><\/span> holds the Minister of Interior and the Prime Minister, as the highest security authority in the country, fully responsible for providing protection to journalists and media organizations, enforcing the rule of law, demanding an end to these armed groups, resorting to the <\/span><\/span>courts<\/span><\/span> in resolving such cases, and invoking the Constitution.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
