A security protection<\/span><\/span> officer<\/span><\/span> of the Kirkuk Oil Company has banned staff from covering student protests.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kirkuk Now correspondent <\/span><\/span>Kar<\/span><\/span>w<\/span><\/span>an<\/span><\/span> Al-Salhi<\/span><\/span> told the Press Freedom <\/span><\/span>Advocacy<\/span><\/span> Association<\/span><\/span> that he and his colleague, <\/span><\/span>Anadol<\/span><\/span> correspondent Eugene Ramadan arrived wednesday morning at the oil company’s <\/span><\/span>site<\/span><\/span> to cover protests by a number of graduates demanding <\/span><\/span>employment<\/span><\/span>, and<\/span><\/span> were surprised to be prevented by a security officer who was responsible for protecting facilities.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Karwan said he had told the officer about his mission and identified him<\/span><\/span>self<\/span><\/span>, but the associate insisted that they be banned from filming, threatening to break their press equipment if they did not leave the company’s <\/span><\/span>site at once<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Association <\/span><\/span>for<\/span><\/span> Press Freedom in Iraq condemns the ban on colleagues from performing their <\/span><\/span>duties, and<\/span><\/span>considers the incident<\/span><\/span> a clear violation of the freedom of journalistic work.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The association also received numerous complaints from Kirkuk journalists expressing their displeasure with the security forces’ <\/span><\/span>interference<\/span><\/span> during<\/span><\/span> covering events in the province.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The association calls on the security services and responsible leaders in Kirkuk to stop preventing journalists from performing their duties, <\/span><\/span>and<\/span><\/span> observe the principles of freedom of journalistic work, <\/span><\/span>and to refrain from<\/span><\/span> discrimination between journalists,<\/span><\/span>and to comply with the constitution.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
