Zai<\/span><\/span>d al-Salami, a reporter for <\/span><\/span>Nas<\/span><\/span> news agency, suffered a severe suffocation<\/span><\/span> on <\/span><\/span>Monday<\/span><\/span> as he was <\/span><\/span>covering the<\/span><\/span> protests in Najaf province<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Salami told the Press Freedom<\/span><\/span> Advocacy Association<\/span><\/span> in Iraq that he was near the provincial building to convey the <\/span><\/span>ongoing<\/span><\/span>events, and suffered <\/span><\/span>a <\/span><\/span>severe suffocation, preventing him from completing the coverage, as security forces used tear gas to disperse the protesters<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He said <\/span><\/span>that the <\/span><\/span>security forces used iron balls and tear gas to end the demonstrations, injuring him and several <\/span><\/span>others<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

While the Association wishes the safety <\/span><\/span>for<\/span><\/span>fellow journalist Z<\/span><\/span>a<\/span><\/span>id al-Salami, it <\/span><\/span>considers the <\/span><\/span>incident <\/span><\/span>a<\/span><\/span> clear<\/span><\/span> violation and obstruction of journalistic work <\/span><\/span>on duty<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The association rejects the continued security forces targeting the whereabouts of journalists, and calls on <\/span><\/span>Minister of Interior<\/span><\/span>to direct the agencies that work under his command to stop <\/span><\/span>using <\/span><\/span>violence, and calls on journalists <\/span><\/span>to observe their personal safety<\/span><\/span> while performing their journalistic duties<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
