are on the rise, due to the political will to keep dictatorial laws in force to this day, in order to muzzle mouths and reduce the space for freedom of expression and constitutionally guaranteed journalistic work<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s7\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Some parties and authoritarian figures seek to abuse journalists, as a punitive measure of what they have revealed or spoken of, through these laws, despite<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">of clearly violating<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> the constitution<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s9\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">The<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> Press Freedom <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Advocacy Association <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">in Iraq calls on all fellow journalists and opinion-makers to participate in <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">this<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> media campaign, seeking to pressure the Iraqi legislature to deal with outdated legal <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">articles<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">, the re-establishment of the Publishing and Information Court, given the sensitivity of the cases against opinion-makers, and <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Iraq\u2019s<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> international recommendations, which included the establishment of the Media and Publishing Court, under the hashtag<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">: #Return_ publication court.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s7\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">On July 12, 2010, the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq decided to set up a court specialized in publishing and media issues, and the decision published on the judicial authority&#8217;s website provided for the allocation of a court in the presidency of the appeal <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Court <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Rusafa<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> to deal with complaints and cases related to the media and publication in its civil and penal sides, and allocated to this court an experienced judge who is fully aware of the role of the press and the media, and <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">is aided by<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> a committee of experts from the law and the press<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s7\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">In April 2017, the Judicial Council abolished a number of competent courts, including the Publishing and Information Court, for lack of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">law enforcement<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">, without seeking to pass a law that <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">could revive it.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Cases <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">of the cancelled court<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> are referred <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">now to<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">other<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> courts according to functional<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">and <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">area<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">affiliation<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">, <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">which has equated the issue of publishing and information with other criminal cases<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span
