The <\/span><\/span>Press Freedom<\/span><\/span> Advocacy Association<\/span><\/span> in Iraq, in collaboration with the Center for the Future of Iraq and the Baghdad Foundation for the Defense of Victims of Opinion, held a dialogue session to discuss the possibility of restoring the Publishing Court under the <\/span><\/span>motto<\/span><\/span> “<\/span><\/span>The <\/span><\/span>Publishing Court<\/span><\/span> is a<\/span><\/span>professional <\/span><\/span>Demand<\/span><\/span>,” on Wednesday, May 19, 2022<\/span><\/span>. The session was attended by<\/span><\/span> representatives of the Iraqi Parliament, the <\/span><\/span>Media<\/span><\/span> and Communications Authority and the Supreme Judicial Council, as well as the Bar Association and a group of journalists, civil society organizations and international actors<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The session, which was moderated by the Executive Director of <\/span><\/span>the <\/span><\/span>Press Freedom <\/span><\/span>Advocacy Association <\/span><\/span>in Iraq, Ms. Raya <\/span><\/span>Faiq<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>briefed the attendees about <\/span><\/span>the campaign (<\/span><\/span>Return<\/span><\/span> the Publishing Court)<\/span><\/span> that was<\/span><\/span>launched by the Association a month ago<\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

. <\/span><\/span>The session also included a working paper <\/span><\/span>presented by the Supreme Judicial Council; <\/span><\/span>Judge<\/span><\/span> Iyad<\/span><\/span> Mohsen <\/span><\/span>Damad<\/span><\/span> explained the reasons why the Supreme Judicial Council returned the Publishing Court and the decision-making process <\/span><\/span>related to <\/span><\/span>media<\/span><\/span> and publishing cases after the dissolution of the court<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

the<\/span><\/span> legal expert <\/span><\/span>Safaa<\/span><\/span> al-<\/span><\/span>Lami<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> highlighted<\/span><\/span> the importance of the court\u2019s return<\/span><\/span> and that there should be <\/span><\/span>a<\/span><\/span> publishing court in each province and not one court in the court of appeal of Al-<\/span><\/span>Rusafa<\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For her part<\/span><\/span>, was interspersed with extensive discussions and came up with a number of recommendations, the most important of which is to work on the enactment of a law for the Publishing Court, as well as <\/span><\/span>providing the needed<\/span><\/span> protection for journalists and <\/span><\/span>media workers<\/span><\/span>, especially <\/span><\/span>that the southern parts are devoid of concrete journalism <\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
