Journalists continue to be targeted after a day of beatings, detentions, confiscation of equipment and denial of coverage on the sidelines of the tragic events that took place in Baghdad throughout the day and night on Monday<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

At dawn on Tuesday, unknown gunmen in <\/span><\/span>Diwaniya<\/span><\/span> province targeted the house of <\/span><\/span>Zakros<\/span><\/span> TV correspondent Nabil al-<\/span><\/span>Jubouri<\/span><\/span> with a hand grenade, and surveillance cameras showed the moment gunmen in an SUV threw a pomegranate and a <\/span><\/span>barrage of bullets at the house, for unknown reasons. The incident resulted in damage to the outer courtyard of the house without causing any injuries<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The association learned that there were no differences or enmities for the journalist with any political party or armed faction<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

On Monday evening, gunmen also targeted the Al-<\/span><\/span>Ahed<\/span><\/span>Radio building in Baghdad’s al-<\/span><\/span>Bayyaa<\/span><\/span> district with mortar shells, resulting in material damage to the building, without any casualties<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The correspondent of the Tigris channel, Mustafa Latif, was injured in the neck by shrapnel of a stray mortar, while his fellow cameraman Kamal <\/span><\/span>Raad<\/span><\/span> was injured in the leg, <\/span><\/span>the incident took place while they<\/span><\/span> were busy covering the events near the Green Zone<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> They <\/span><\/span>were<\/span><\/span> taken to Al-<\/span><\/span>Karama<\/span><\/span> Hospital for treatment<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Concerning<\/span><\/span> coverage of the protests inside the Green Zone on Monday, AP correspondent <\/span><\/span>Hadi<\/span><\/span> Mazban<\/span><\/span> was beaten by the <\/span><\/span>sector’s protective force<\/span><\/span>, and all his press equipment<\/span><\/span> were <\/span><\/span>confiscated<\/span><\/span> to prevent him from filming<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

At the time that the <\/span><\/span>Press<\/span><\/span> Freedom <\/span><\/span>Advocacy Association <\/span><\/span>in Iraq wishes safety to all the <\/span><\/span>injured<\/span><\/span> journalists, it considers the targeting of journalists’ homes and media buildings a serious indicator of the decline in the space for freedom of journalistic and media work in the country<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The association also calls on protesters not to involve the media in <\/span><\/span>the rising disputes<\/span><\/span> between politicians, as the media is a means of conveying the events taking place <\/span><\/span>on ground<\/span><\/span>. It reminds the current government and security services of the need to provide the necessary protection to the headquarters of the media and their staff<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The association also calls on fellow journalists to take care and caution, and to <\/span><\/span>keep as<\/span><\/span> safe<\/span><\/span> as possible<\/span><\/span>, to perform their tasks, especially at the time of escalating events and the outbreak of protests<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
