Security elements <\/span><\/span>of <\/span><\/span>Najaf <\/span><\/span>SWAT <\/span><\/span>forces detained the corr<\/span><\/span>espondent of the “Al-<\/span><\/span>Mustaqil<\/span><\/span>” <\/span><\/span>newspaper, <\/span><\/span>Ali Al-<\/span><\/span>Sharifi<\/span><\/span>, while <\/span><\/span>conveying<\/span><\/span> traffic congestion and suffering facing visitors to reach Najaf province, on Sunday night<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-<\/span><\/span>Sharifi’s<\/span><\/span> colleague told the Press Freedom<\/span><\/span>Advocacy Association<\/span><\/span> in Iraq that SWAT elements detained him for about two hours, while <\/span><\/span>he was <\/span><\/span>documenting the heavy traffic at the entrances <\/span><\/span>of<\/span><\/span>Najaf, due to the blocking of a number of roads<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> The<\/span><\/span>force pulled out his mobile phone, <\/span><\/span>insulted and abused him.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The reporter noted that he had informed the force of his journalistic duty, but the force officer insisted on arresting him and confiscating his equipment<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A video<\/span><\/span> was<\/span><\/span> circulated on social media <\/span><\/span>and it <\/span><\/span>showed the moment security forces stormed the filming site and assaulted the reporter<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Association condemns what the journalist was subjected to and considers it a violation of the constitutionally guaranteed freedo<\/span><\/span>m of journalistic and media work in the country<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In its reports, the association <\/span><\/span>repeatedly points out the<\/span><\/span> methods of violence against <\/span><\/span>press<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>how cadres are prevented<\/span><\/span> from performing their tasks, <\/span><\/span>where<\/span><\/span>security forces treat journalists as enemies<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The association holds the commander-in-chief of the armed forces responsible for the beatings, insults, <\/span><\/span>abuses<\/span><\/span> and denial of coverage by the official security forces, and considers him a <\/span><\/span>collaborator<\/span><\/span> in the repeated constitutional violation<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span> in Iraq, because of his indifference to what the security forces do <\/span><\/span>to<\/span><\/span>journalists<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
