Members of the National Security <\/span><\/span>forces<\/span><\/span> in Mosul arrested <\/span><\/span>Hala<\/span><\/span> FM director<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> Sattar<\/span><\/span> al-Mahal<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> and released him on bail <\/span><\/span>after a couple of days<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Mahal told the Press Freedom Advocacy Association in Iraq<\/span><\/span> that he was released, on Wednesday morning from the Directorate of National Security in Mosul, after <\/span><\/span>he was arrested from<\/span><\/span> in front of the radio building last Monday, upon <\/span><\/span>his <\/span><\/span>arrival at work, where a number of security elements <\/span><\/span>approached<\/span><\/span> him, took him to the directorate building, <\/span><\/span>where he was detained.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The colleague said that the officers of the agency confirmed <\/span><\/span>that <\/span><\/span>two lawsuits <\/span><\/span>were <\/span><\/span>filed against him by the official of oil products in Mosul, “<\/span><\/span>Moaz<\/span><\/span> al-<\/span><\/span>Nuaimi<\/span><\/span>” accusing the journalist of defamation, after <\/span><\/span>raising<\/span><\/span> a number of <\/span><\/span>corruption <\/span><\/span>concerns<\/span><\/span> about the work of the directorate<\/span><\/span>. The journalists requested access to <\/span><\/span>the case paper filed against him, but the investigators refused<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Mahal <\/span><\/span>added that he did not receive any <\/span><\/span>notice<\/span><\/span> or warrant about the lawsuits, until he was suddenly arrested.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Association <\/span><\/span>condemns the arrest incident within its circumstance, <\/span><\/span>which reflects a reprehensible approach <\/span><\/span>against<\/span><\/span> journalists, and considers it contrary to the directives of the Supreme Judicial Council, which announced the <\/span><\/span>urge<\/span><\/span> to notify the defendant by the Journalists Syndicate<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span><\/span>Association<\/span><\/span> holds the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces responsible for the insistence of the security forces on arresting journalists <\/span><\/span>on illegal bases<\/span><\/span>, to muzzle mouths, and demands an end to the arresting <\/span><\/span>and<\/span><\/span> detaining<\/span><\/span> of <\/span><\/span>journalists, to silence their voices<\/span><\/span>. It also calls <\/span><\/span>to respect the principles of the law and what is stipulated in international conventions<\/span><\/span> that are <\/span><\/span>signed by Iraq, to protect <\/span><\/span>the remainder<\/span><\/span> of the freedom of journalistic work, after the country has fallen to i<\/span><\/span>ts lowest levels in recent years\u2019 ranking.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
