Elements<\/span><\/span> of <\/span><\/span>Maysan<\/span><\/span> police smashed the equipment of the cameraman of Al-<\/span><\/span>Mirbad<\/span><\/span> channel, while he was covering a demonstration of <\/span><\/span>Education<\/span><\/span> graduates in front of the governorate education building, on Sunday morning<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span><\/span>Press Freedom<\/span><\/span> Advocacy Association in Iraq<\/span><\/span>learned from its coordinator in <\/span><\/span>Maysan<\/span><\/span>, that the security elements that surrounded the site of the demonstration, and tried to <\/span><\/span>disperse<\/span><\/span> the protesters, smashed the camera of the cameraman of Al-<\/span><\/span>Mirbad<\/span><\/span>channel, “Aws Al-<\/span><\/span>Anzi<\/span><\/span>” when accompanied by the reporter, “<\/span><\/span>Jassim<\/span><\/span> Al-Ansari”, to cover the demonstration<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> He added that<\/span><\/span> other security elements of the police <\/span><\/span>verbally <\/span><\/span>assaulted the cameraman <\/span><\/span>as he was<\/span><\/span> document<\/span><\/span>ing<\/span><\/span> the gathering of educational graduates demanding job opportunities, adding that the security tried to arrest the cameraman, but the demonstrators prevented that<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Association condemns what happened to the fellow photographer, and considers it a<\/span><\/span>n oppressive way adopted by t<\/span><\/span>he security forces to prevent journalists from reporting events throughout Iraq<\/span><\/span>. The act is considered a <\/span><\/span>flagrant violation of the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of press and media work<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Association calls on the security services in <\/span><\/span>Maysan<\/span><\/span> to stop preventing journalists from performing their duties, to provide them with the necessary protection instead of attacking them, and to respect the principles of the law, which are stipulated in the constitution that guarantees freedom of journalistic work in all its forms<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It is noteworthy that <\/span><\/span>Maysan<\/span><\/span> province was emptied of journalists and activists after a series of assassinations carried out by gunmen <\/span><\/span>that <\/span><\/span>prompted journalists in <\/span><\/span>Maysan<\/span><\/span> to leave their <\/span><\/span>hometown <\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
