National Communications and Media Commission in Iraq declared its intention to file a lawsuit against Saudi Alsharq Alawsat newspaper on the background of its unprofessional attitude that revealed a dire abuse imposed against Iraqi people.
A statement released by NCMC, on Monday, assumed that the commission, according to the authority it holds, pursues filing a lawsuit against the paper legally in related courts to ban its distribution and at the same time it calls KRG to close its office and ban its distribution since it is also part of Iraq.
At the time that Press Freedom Advocacy Association in Iraq holds this opportunity to express its refusal to such a conduct adopted by Alsharq Alawsat, it summons the administration of the newspaper to pledge that such releases will not take place in the future regardless the pressure or ideology exercised in this direction.
At the same time the association confirms that NCMC has no power to sue the paper since its obligations are restricted to arranging radio communication frequencies and internet bands.
It is to be mentioned that NCMC has closed the paper before under the justification of lacking permission.
