Mohammed Halabchy K24 correspondent was injured after escaping a sniper’s fire attack against the channel’s car in Alhurriya area in Mosul. Press Freedom Advocacy Association in Iraq learnt from its KRG insiders that the staff was escorted by Peshmerga forces, and that Halabchy received medical attention in one of Erbil’s hospitals and his situation is stable now. The association recorded how Almayadin staff survived a booby car attack by a suicide bomber, near Mosul, on a related level, Beladi Satellite channel staff suffered from sniper’s fire; all these incidents confirm targeting ISIS press cadres escorted by security forces.
The association urges all press personnel to abide to military instructions during operations, and not to push themselves into military situations that are beyond their capacity. The association also holds all media bodies responsible for sending unqualified field correspondents to such risky areas without appropriate precautions otherwise they might endure legal consequences.
