Basrah Sheikh of tribe threatened members of staff of Almerbad Media Foundation to close it down on the background of publishing the news of tribal struggles in the province. The situation was exposed by a video broadcasted by Sheikh DhurghamAlmaliki affiliated to sons of Malik tribe in Basrah that shows him accusing Almerbad of defaming the province by conveying the news of the tribal struggle that emerges from time to time and not covering the activities held by the sheikh. He added that “we will order Basrah’s young people to make you lick garbage and will destroy the building on your heads”
At the time that Press Freedom Advocacy Association in Iraq holds the sheikh responsible for the safety of all members of Almerbed’s staff, it expresses its rage due to the insult of tribes against media bodies in the country and their interference with their duties. The association also holds the local government and security forces full responsibility for the threat that might target any member of Almerbed’s staff and demands the personal interference of the PM to secure the agency and its personnel and that the sheikh be detained immediately for provoking killing and releasing clear death threats and messages of hatred.
