Press Freedom Advocacy Association workshop held in Basra

Press Freedom Advocacy Association in Iraq held a workshop on publishing felony; as stipulated in Iraqi criminal law no. 111, for 1969, in Basra.
The workshop that was held in Almihwar hall, was attended by a number of journalists, legists, and provincial activists and has discussed the stipulations of articles (81-84, 182, 180, 201, 211, 2014, and 2015) that hold journalists accountable according to Iraqi law.
Attendees stressed upon the urgency of crystallizing a vision of publishing criminalization and the amendment of the articles that comply with the democratic system that strengthen constitutional freedoms.
Head of the Association, Mustafa Naser, displayed the reasons behind the release of this project clarifying that the size of lawsuits filed against the press family in Iraq has raised recently especially in the last couple of years.
On his part professor Ali Alasady, presented a paper on the law’s stipulations and suggested amendments concerning media and impunity on duty. The meeting was concluded upon the agreement that all negative penalties that affect freedoms be omitted and be substituted with fines.
