The journalist Sherwan Sherwani is still languishing in the prisons of the Kurdistan Region and faces an unknown fate after the Asayish forces arrested him more than two months ago.
The regional government has arrested Sherwani, who works as a free journalist, on the background of writing numbers of press reports in which he shed light on the deteriorating living reality in the region and his disclosure of corruption files in the corridors of the political work of the ruling authority.
The authorities in the region still refuse to disclose the place of detention of Sherwani, or to announce the type of charge against him.
Through the Press Freedom Advocacy Association in Iraq, the wife of the detained colleague, Mrs. “Rogha Sh Sherwani,” appealed to the concerned authorities and the federal government to provide assistance and reveal the whereabouts of her husband, and to speed up his release.
The association indicates in its reports an increase in the number of violations against journalists by the ruling authority in the region, especially after it arrested journalists without issuing judicial warrants.
The association calls on the regional government to reveal the fate of our colleague Sherwani and the rest of the detained journalists, and to release them immediately.
It also calls on the international community to shed light on the violations committed in the region against journalists and activists.
