Security forces of Mosul Mayor attacked Mosuliya Channel cadre during the coverage of the visit of the Minister of Municipalities, Reconstruction and Housing in the province.
Ahmad Amjad, Mosuliya correspondent told Press Freedom Advocacy Association that he, along with cameraman Karam Altaii, were banned from covering the visit that was conducted on Friday. Adding that Mayor’s Nawfal Alyaqoub security suddenly ordered them away. They were taken from among the rest of the media channels and led to the next room and they were informed that their channel was prohibited from coverage according to the Mayor’s orders.
At the time that the association condemns banning any media channel from executing its duties, it considers this as a dire violation for valid Iraqi laws and constitution that secured Freedom Press in the country.
The association demands that the mayor of Nineveh to expose his formal attitude and that it would not be repeated. It also demands PM Haidar Alibadi, to investigate the incident especially after their role was highly acknowledged by the PM himself for the ongoing coverage of the liberation battles in the country including Almosuliya Channel.
The association considers the prolong silence of GOI towards the sufferings of the press in the country is a waste of the achievements on ground.
