The staff of the Kurdish channel NRT, consisting of a reporter and a cameraman, were detained Monday morning in Sulaimaniyah by Security Forces.
“The channel’s staff, consisting of fellow reporter Omar Fath and photographer Ziad Kamel, were on a journalistic mission to cover the demonstrations that began this morning in Sayyid Sadiq district of Sulaimaniyah province, where they be detained for two hours by The Asaish forces without knowing the reason for the detention,” said Omeid Mohammed, director of the channel’s Baghdad office.
Press Freedom Advocacy Association in Iraq considers the incident a violation of the freedom of journalists and an infringement of the constitution. The association calls on respected sides in Kurdistan region to stop arresting journalists and to observe the standards of freedom of the press and the media in reporting events
