KRG authorities in Erbil banned Dijlah Satellite Channel from functioning in the Province. It also issued an order to SNGs companies that the channel’s office in Baghdad is banned from broadcasting.
The channel stated to Press Freedom Advocacy Association in Iraq that the ban was a consequence of broadcasting an episode about Kurdistan referendum; the episode was interrupted and the guest’s speech was cut since the episode was live. The dominant sides accused the channel of supporting anti- referendum allies.
At the time that Press Freedom Advocacy Association in Iraq condemns banning any media body from exercising its function, it considers any act of the kind as a dire violation to the Iraqi constitution that secured freedom of expression. The association confirms that the decisions made by the Kurdistani Democratic Party are invalid especially that the association recorded tens of violations that were committed against the press family there. The association demands that these parties stop their dictator mode that returns the region to the near past that the parties sacrificed and struggled to free themselves from. It also demands that the federal government has a decisive say concerning the issue.
