Security forces detained on Saturday Alghad channel correspondent and cameraman Omar Almuniri and Mohammed Dhiyaa in Erbil.
PFAAI coordinator in Erbil said that the correspondent and cameraman where surprised by being detained as they were getting ready for broadcasting direct interviews with pedestrians; both camera and equipment were seized. The correspondent was released after a couple of hours.
.at the time that the association severely condemns prohibiting media channels from exercising their duties and performing related interviews, it stresses upon the fact that these actions are deemed a dire violation of the Iraqi constitution and laws that were also approved by KRG parliament.
The association demands that KRG reviews its conduct towards media bodies and calls international organizations, after the federal government proved to be invalid in this concern, to immediately interfere to protect freedom of expression in the region.
