A number of satellite correspondents in Karbala province resented the selectivity that tainted the province’s attitude in naming certain media bodies to cover Ashura conference.
On Wednesday, the province’s correspondents told PFAAI that the province invited (IMN, Alhurra and Sumeria) only to cover the conference that was held for securing the famous Ashura Event; the conference that was attended by Karbala governor, Middle Furat Operations chief in command and Karbala police chief in command. They added that Faris Alsherifi, the coordinator contacted the aforementioned channels and asked that the invitation be exclusive.
Mutaz Almashadany, correspondent for Alalem satellite channel said that this invitation was based upon racial selectivity, and at the time that officials are rejecting any discrimination among people in KR, it repeats itself in Karbala. On the other hand, Faisal Alkerati , correspondent for Alsharqiya news said that this is not the first time that this happens and he dfemands that HOR deals with this selectivity by approving Press Freedoms Law adding that this kind of discrimination. Waleed Alsalihi, Altaghyir correspondent said that the issue is set forth by the seniors in order to widen the gap among fellow workers in media and journalism.
At the time that Press Freedom Advocacy Association backs the journalists in their call, it considers that naming certain channels and limiting them to three only is a feature of information obstruction and imposing indirect blockade upon other channels. The association calls the interference of the federal government to direct the provinces not to ban any channel from covering the major events of the country.
