A number of media workers were subjected to assault and beating and their equipment was confiscated by a security force in Basra. The team was banned from shooting.
Saad Qusay, Hurra correspondent in Basra told Press Freedom Advocacy Association in Iraq that he and his colleagues were part of the mentioned attack; Reuters cameraman, Isam Alsudani which is Merbid Correspondent and himself were beaten and their equipment were confiscated during the dispersion of the sit in in Basra. The attack was carried out by a masked security force that concealed its features and ranks. The same force banned other media teams from coverage.
At the time that Press Freedom Advocacy Association in Iraq condemns what the media family is experiencing of continuous violations of freedom of expression, it warns from the mouth muzzling business and repeated assaults against press and media carried out by Basra security forces. It also holds the PM full responsibility of the repeated violation of the constitution and not taking prompt action or holding any of the transgressors responsible for his illegal actions.
